Template category change update

If you disagree with the category that Meta has assigned a given template, you can use the migration results window to appeal the categorization until May 15, 2023.

Old categorization

  • Meta until today classified the WhatsApp templates as the following conversation categories
    • Business-initiated conversations (BIC)
    • User-initiated conversations (UIC)
  • The following template categories were grouped under the BIC
    • Marketing
    • Transactional
    • OTP
  • When a particular category template message is sent, it opened up its respective conversation type window for 24 hours.
  • And, the pricing was based on these conversation type window opened.

New Categorization

  • Meta is now introduced three categories
    • Marketing
    • Utility
    • Authentication
  • And, Instead of BIC and UIC. There is going to be four different conversation types
    • Marketing conversation
    • Utility conversation
    • Authentication conversation
    • Service conversation
  • On sending a template message now, each of the template now opens up a 24 hour window of that conversation
  • And, the pricing will be charged based on the conversation type window opened.

What will happen to my existing templates?

  • All the templates you have in the account are still Active and can be utilized.
  • Meta has assigned all existing templates, with the new category based on the templates content and Meta's template guidelines.
  • You can view migration results in thefacebook's WhatsApp Manager > Account tools > Message templates panel by clicking the See all updates button in the Alerts banner.

Categorization appeals

  • If you disagree with the category that Meta has assigned a given template, you can use the migration results window to appeal the categorization until May 15, 2023.
  • To appeal, while in the migration results window, select each template you wish to appeal, click the Edit category button, then complete the flow.
  • Please note that categorization appeals submitted through WhatsApp Manager migration results window, will not affect a template's status.
  • If your template was already approved when you submitted an appeal, it will remain approved even if Meta rejects your appeal (and it retains the category Meta has assigned to it).
